Sincona sale 77, lot 2904

This specimen was lot 2904 in Sincona sale 77 (Zürich, May 2022), where it sold for 700 CHF (about US$850 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"HOLY ROMAN EMPIRE - AUSTRIA. Maria Theresia, 1740-1780. 1/2 Taler 1745, Prag. Jahreszahl im Stempel aus 1744 geändert. Selten. Sehr schön. Leicht justiert. (Holy Roman Empire, Maria Theresia, 1740-80, half thaler of 1745, Prague mint, 1745/4 overdate. Rare, Very fine, Minor adjustment marks.)"

This type was struck in Prague in 1742-45. It is scarce, verging on rare. The reverse is different from the half thaler struck in Vienna. The subsequent type was struck to the convention standard (14.03 g, 0.833 fine silver).

Specification: 14.40 g, 0.875 fine silver, this specimen 14.17 g.
