Stack's Bowers 2025 ANA sale, lot 46038

This specimen was lot 46038 in Stack's Bowers ANA sale (Oklahoma City, OK, August 2025), where it sold for $264. The catalog description[1] noted, "AUSTRIA. Holy Roman Empire. Taler, 1756. Vienna Mint. Maria Theresa. PCGS Genuine--Mount Removed, AU Details. From the Cookie Family Collection." This type was struck 1754-65 to the convention standard and is common. The Vienna mint struck other thalers with the bust of Maria Theresia's husband, emperor Francis I. After Francis' death in 1765, the thalers of Maria Theresia were revised to depict her with a veil.
