Künker sale 293, lot 1634

This specimen was lot 1634 in Künker sale 293 (Osnabrück, Germany, July 2017), where it sold for €170 (about US$229 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"RÖMISCH-DEUTSCHES REICH, Franz I. 1745-1765. 1/2 Reichstaler 1750, GR, Graz. Sehr schön-vorzüglich. Exemplar der Slg. Bernhard Terletzki. Exemplar der Auktion Heidelberger Münzhandlung, Herbert Grün 25, Heidelberg 1999, Nr. 803. (Holy Roman Empire, Francis I, 1745-65, half thaler of 1750, Graz mint. Very fine to extremely fine.)"

This type was struck 1746-50 at Graz (shown here), Vienna and Kremnitz. In 1751, the weight was reduced to the convention thaler standard (KM 2036, 14.03 g) and struck in that form 1751-65 at the above mints plus Hall and Karlsburg. While this type is not rare, it is scarcer than the half convention thaler.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: 14.41 g, 0.875 fine silver.
