SB523-71558r.jpg

This specimen was lot 71558 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, May 2023), where it sold for $312. The catalog description[1] noted, "AUSTRIA. 3 Kreuzer, 1743. Vienna Mint. Maria Theresa. NGC MS-64. An impeccably bright and well preserved example with satin luster and pearly argent surfaces. Boldly impressed and well centered on the flan, all design elements are sharp to full. Fittingly the sole finest NGC has encapsulated, eye appeal is exceptional for the type and bound to be greatly appreciated by the next owner." This type was struck 1742-45 at the Vienna mint. Another three kreuzer (KM 1702), struck 1743 only at Graz, has a slightly higher catalog value. This tiny coin was one fortieth of a thaler.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: 1.7 g, 0.344 fine silver.

Catalog reference: KM-1691.
