Künker Auction 441, lot 4662

This specimen was lot 4662 in Künker sale 441 (Osnabrück, March 2026), where it sold for €3,000 (about US$4,127 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"RÖMISCH-DEUTSCHES REICH, Ferdinand I., 1522-1558-1564. Pfundner 1533, Graz. Mit + FERDINAND · D · G · ROM · HVNG · RX in der Vorderseitenumschrift. Sehr seltener Jahrgang. Hübsche Patina, winz. Schrötlingsfehler am Rand, sehr schön. Aus der Sammlung Kommerzialrat Dr. Herbert Wenzel, Wien. (Holy Roman Empire, Ferdinand I, 1522-1558-1564, pfundner of 1533, Graz mint. Very rare date, handsome patina, small edge defect on the obverse, very fine.)"

Numista shows pfundners (twelve kreuzer) for Ferdinand from Linz (1530-34), Klagenfurt (1527-36) and Graz (1533 only). Others are known from Vienna and Hall. They have a common obverse but different arms on the reverse. Its face value was one-fifth of a thaler, not one-eighth as stated by Numista.
