Künker sale 294, lot 4246

This specimen was lot 4246 in Künker sale 294 (Osnabrück, Germany, July 2017), where it sold for €320 (about US$431 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"REICHSSILBERMÜNZEN, ANHALT, Friedrich I. 1871-1904. 2 Mark 1896. Sehr schön/vorzüglich. (Germany, unified silver coinage, duchy of Anhalt, Frederick I, 1871-1904, two mark of 1896. Very fine to extremely fine.)"

This type was struck 1896 only and is fairly scarce. It is listed in the SCWC under "Anhalt-Dessau" but as the other branches of Anhalt, Anhalt-Bernberg and Anhalt-Cothen, had gone extinct by 1863, the title on the coin is simply "HERZOG V. ANHALT."

Recorded mintage: 50,000 + proofs.

Specification: 11.11 g, 0.900 fine silver, 28 mm diameter.

Catalog reference: KM 23, J. 20.
