Anhalt 1896 A 5 mark Dav-511
This specimen was lot 3885 in Sincona sale 9 (Zürich, October 2012), where it sold for 2,600 CHF (about US$3,288 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"DEUTSCHLAND Kaiserreich Anhalt, Herzogtum Münzstätte Berlin Friedrich I. 1871-1904. 5 Mark 1896. Zum 25. Regierungsjubiläum. Polierte Platte. Fast FDC. (Duchy of Anhalt, Frederick I, 1871-1904, five mark of 1896, on his 25th year of rule. Choice uncirculated on a polished blank.)"
It is listed in the SCWC under "Anhalt-Dessau" but as the other branches of Anhalt, Anhalt-Bernberg and Anhalt-Cothen, had gone extinct by 1863, the title on the coin is simply "HERZOG V. ANHALT." This coin is rare. It is a product of the Berlin mint.
Recorded mintage: 10,000 plus a few proofs.
Specification: 27.77 g, 0.900 fine silver, 38 mm diameter.
