Anhalt 1896-A 10 mark
This specimen was lot 3835 in Künker sale 264 (Osnabrück, June 2015), where it sold for €2,800 (about US$3,617 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"ANHALT Friedrich I. 1871-1904. 10 Mark 1896. Vorzüglich-Stempelglanz. (Germany, duchy of Anhalt, Fredeerick I, 1871-1904, ten mark of 1896. Extremely fine to uncirculated.)"
This type was struck 1896 and 1901 and is rare. It is listed in the SCWC under "Anhalt-Dessau" but as the other branches of Anhalt, Anhalt-Bernberg and Anhalt-Cothen, had gone extinct by 1863, the title on the coin is simply "HERZOG VON ANHALT." In 1896, the duke also issued two, five and twenty mark coins.
Recorded mintage: 20,000 plus 200 proofs.
Specification: 3.98 g, 0.900 fine gold.
