Stephen Album sale 50, lot 3516

Milled coinage was introduced to Afghanistan during the reign of Abdur Rahman (1880-1901). This abbasi was tariffed at twenty paisa or one-third of a rupee (recall that an Indian rupee was sixty four paisa). The second specimen was lot 3516 in Stephen Album sale 50 (Santa Rosa, CA, September 2024), where it sold for $102. The catalog description[1] noted, "AFGHANISTAN: Abdurrahman, 1880-1901, AR abbasi, Kabul, AH1313, a superb mint-state example! PCGS graded MS65, ex Hakim Hamidi Collection."

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: 3.11 g, 0.500 fine silver.
