Stephen Album sale 50, lot 3555

This specimen was lot 3555 in Stephen Album sale 50 (Santa Rosa, CA, September 2024), where it sold for $420. The catalog description[1] noted, "AFGHANISTAN: Habibullah, 1901-1919, AR abbasi, AH1326, date below the obverse, denomination below the mosque on the reverse, VF-XF, RR, ex Hakim Hamidi Collection. Very rare subtype with the date divided "132" left and "6" right of the letter "J" in the word siraj." Milled coinage was introduced to Afghanistan during the reign of Abdur Rahman (1880-1901). This type was struck AH 1324, 1328, 1329; this denomination is much less often seen than the rupees and half rupees. Each die was handmade, so many varieties exist.

Recorded mintage: unknown but very scarce.

Specification: 3.11 g, 0.900 fine silver, 17 mm diameter.
