Künker sale 293, lot 803

This specimen was lot 803 in Künker sale 293 (Osnabrück, Germany, July 2017), where it sold for €240 (about US$324 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"FRANKFURT, STADT, 1/2 Gulden 1862. R Kl. Stempelfehler, vorzüglich. (Germany, city of Frankfurt, half gulden of 1862. Scarce, light hairlines, extremely fine.)"

This denomination, slightly larger than a French franc, was struck in Frankfurt 1838-49 and 1862. This last date is rare.

Recorded mintage: 13,762.

Specification: 5.29 g, 0.900 fine silver.
