Schulman 389-095r.jpg

This specimen was lot 95 in Schulman auction 389 (Amsterdam, December 2025), where it sold for €220 (about US$310 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted, "German States - 2 Thaler or Vereinsdoppeltaler. 1862, Silver, FRANKFURT A/M Female bust right. Rev. crowned eagle. Ex Cherry Tree Collection. PCGS Genuine AU Details. Cleaned." This type was struck 1860-62 and 1866 and is not rare in lightly circulated condition. As the thaler shrank from the convention thaler (28.06 g) to the vereinsthaler (18.52 g), the double thaler came back into fashion for commemoratives.

Recorded mintage: 344,410.

Specification: 37.04 g, 0.900 fine silver, 41 mm diameter, lettered edge, this specimen 36.98 g.

Catalog reference: KM 365, J. 43; AKS 4; Dav-651.
