Zurich SB1019-72814r.jpg

This specimen was lot 72814 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Santa Ana, CA, October 2019), where it sold for $264. The catalog description[1] noted, "SWITZERLAND. Zurich. Taler, 1728. ANACS AU Details--Cleaned. Exceedingly lustrous, this attractive "city view" Taler does exhibit some cleaning marks, but also offers golden re-toning near the peripheries." This type was struck in Zurich 1722-28 and was one of a series of thalers struck throughout the eighteenth century. Many of the later issues were "city view" thalers. The obverse legend, "MONETA REIPUBLICAE TIGURINAE," means "coin of the Republic of Zurich." One thaler = 72 schillinge.

Recorded mintage: unknown but not rare.

Specification: silver.
