Jean Elsen sale 140, lot 1069

This specimen was lot 1069 in Jean Elsen sale 140 (Brussels, March 2019), where it sold for €85 (about US$113 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"PORTUGAL, Joao V (1706-1750), AR cruzado novo (400 reis), 1739. D/ IOAN/ V entre deux palmes, sous une couronne. R/ Croix cantonnée de quatre fleurons. Très Beau à Superbe. (kingdom of Portugal, John V, 1706-50, gold cruzado novo of 1739. Obverse: king's name between two palms beneath a crown; reverse: cross cantonned with four florettes. Very Fine - Extremely Fine.)"

This type was struck in Lisbon 1718-48 and is often listed as a cruzado novo. It was officially worth 400 réis but traded for 480 réis.
