This specimen was lot 31514 in Heritage sale 3064 (Chicago, April 2018), where it sold for $6,600. The catalog description[1] noted, "João V gold 4 Escudos (Peça) 1739 MS65 NGC, Lisbon mint. A very difficult year to come by - only 5 examples have been certified by NGC or PCGS and of those few, this specimen is by far the highest graded (the next highest an MS62 NGC). Absolutely spectacular, this undisturbed specimen shows essentially pristine surfaces graced with a radiant sheen of mint luster, its strike bold and definitive. A scarce issue as a whole and extremely troublesome to obtain in higher grades, this prize piece is surely one for the premium collector of Portuguese gold." This type was struck 1723-50 but is seldom seen compared to similar coins that were struck in Brazil.
