The first specimen was lot 3104 in UBS sale 76. The type was struck 1707-47. Despite the low value listed in the SCWC, this little coin is quite scarce and expect to pay substantially over the estimate on the infrequent occasions it comes up for sale. This denomination was last issued in 1821 during the reign of João VI. Brazilian 1000 réis were struck 1699-1787; they are generally distinguished by the substitution of a mintmark for the rosettes on the obverse.
Recorded mintage: unknown.
Specification: 2.69 g, 0.917 fine gold, .079 troy oz AGW, 18 mm diameter.
