This specimen was lot 1863 in Stephen Album sale 37 (Santa Rosa, CA, June 2020), where it did not sell. The catalog description[1] noted, "PORTUGAL: João V, 1706-1750, AV 400 reis, Lisbon, 1741, tiny trace of mount on the edge, barely noticeable, VF. By the Law of August 4, 1688 all gold and silver coins had a value 20% above their face value, thus this type was valued at 480 reis (= 1 pinto)." This type was struck in Lisbon 1718-48 and is often listed as a cruzado novo. It was officially worth 400 réis but traded for 480 réis.
