Sedwick sale 12, lot 247

This specimen was lot 247 in Sedwick sale 12 (Winter Park, FL, October 2012), where it sold for $342.20. The catalog description[1] noted, "Lisbon, Portugal, 400 reis, João V, 1736. Bold XF+, slightly crude rims (as made), popular for jewelry." This type was struck in Lisbon 1718-48 and is often listed as a cruzado novo. It was officially worth 400 réis but traded for 480 réis.
