Sincona sale 97, lot 1483

This specimen was lot 1483 in SINCONA Auction 97 (Zürich, May 2025), where it did not sell. The catalog description[1] noted,

"FRANKREICH Königreich, Louis XV. 1715-1774. 2 Louis d'or au bandeau 1753 D, Lyon. Fast sehr schön. Justierspuren. (kingdom of France, Louis XV,1715-74, gold double louis of 1753, Lyon mint. About Very Fine, Adjustment marks.)"

The SCWC reports this mint for 1743-45, 1753-61 and 1770; other dates may exist. This type was struck in France 1742-73 in some numbers. The type is common altho most individual dates are rare. Low mintage dates such as this one generally don't obtain much premium.

Recorded mintage: 206[2].

Specification: 16.31 g, 0.917 fine gold, reeded edge, 28-29 mm diameter, designed by J.-C. Röettiers, this specimen 14.96 g.
