Künker sale 336, lot 6055

This specimen was lot 6055 in Künker sale 336 (Osnabrück, Germany, March 2020), where it sold for €1,500 (about US$1,963 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"FRANKREICH, KÖNIGREICH, Louis XV, 1715-1774. Double louis d'or au bandeau 1753, K, Bordeaux. GOLD. Min. justiert, kl. Schrötlingsfehler, sehr schön-vorzüglich. (kingdom of France, Louis XV, 1715-74, double louis d'or of the ribbon of 1753, Bordeaux mint. Light adjustment marks, very fine to extremely fine.)"

This type was struck 1742-73 in some numbers for soldiers' pay.

Recorded mintage: 44,325[2], a slightly better date.

Specification: 16.31 g, 0.917 fine gold, reeded edge, 28-29 mm diameter, designed by J.-C. Röettiers, this specimen 16.27 g.
