Künker sale 335, lot 3598

This specimen was lot 3598 in Künker sale 335 (Osnabrück, Germany, March 2020), where it sold for €3,000 (about US$3,926 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"BAYERN, SEIT 1623 KURFÜRSTENTUM, SEIT 1806 KÖNIGREICH: Maximilian I. (IV.) Joseph, 1799-1806-1825. 1/2 Konv.-Taler 1800. Selten, besonders in dieser Erhaltung. Prachtexemplar. Herrliche Patina, min. justiert, fast Stempelglanz. (Germany, electorate of Bavaria, Maximilian Joseph, 1799-1825, half convention thaler of 1800. Rare, especially in this quality, cabinet piece. Beautiful patina, light adjustment marks, about uncirculated.)"

This rare type of 1799-1803 is priced nine times that of the contemporary thaler (Dav-540).
