from the Stack's Bowers 2017 ANA sale, lot 21323

This specimen was lot 21323 in Stack's Bowers ANA Auction (Denver, CO, August 2017), where it sold for $10,575. The catalog description[1] noted, "PERU. 2 Escudos, 1749-R. Ferdinand VI (1746-60). PCGS MS-62 Secure Holder. RARE short lived type. Excellent strike on a somewhat compact flan. The sole certified example at either NGC or PCGS. In an excellent state of preservation. Bold strike with soft satin luster and great eye appeal. From the Blue Moon Collection." Cob two escudos were struck at the Lima mint 1747-49 for Ferdinand VI of Spain and became the "pistoles" of pirate lore.
