This specimen was lot 11006 in Ponterio sale 169 (Baltimore, November 2012), where it did not sell. The catalog description[1] noted, "MEXICO. 2 Escudos, 1749/8-MoMF. RARE type. Nicely toned. PCGS VF-30 Secure Holder." All Mexican colonial gold may be considered scarce. This type was struck 1748-51. It was superseded by KM 126.2, struck 1752-56, which dropped the "2 S" on the reverse. The "2 S" was restored in 1773. Only the overdate is recorded for 1749.
