This specimen was lot 12367 in Ponterio sale 177 (Chicago, August 2013), where it sold for $4,700. The catalog description[1] noted, "MEXICO. 8 Escudos, 1749-MF. NGC AU-55. Ferdinand VI (1746-60)." All eight escudos of this king are rare and expensive. The reverse motto, "NOMINA MAGNA SEQUOR," is Latin for "I follow a great name [Philip V]."
