Heritage sale 61526, lot 21004

This specimen was lot 21004 in Heritage sale 61526 (Dallas, TX, July 2025), where it sold for $264. The catalog description[1] noted, "Brazil: Afonso VI Counterstamped 200 Reis (1663) VG Details (Environmental Damage) PCGS. The early settlers of Brazil made do with counterstamped Portuguese coins until mints were opened in the colony in the 1690's. Confusingly, another series of 200 réis counterstamps was executed in 1668 (KM 63.1).

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: host coin 0.917 fine silver.

Catalog reference: KM 32, LMB-76.
