Saxony H3081-30685r.jpg

This specimen was lot 30685 in Heritage sale 3081 (New York, January 2020), where it did not sell. The catalog description[1] noted, "German States: Saxony. Friedrich August III gold Ducat 1792-IEC MS65 NGC. Vicariat issue, double eagle type. Struck to near-perfection and offering a sublime golden luster that sweeps across the fields with effortless ease, this charming gold ducat should be seen as an ideal candidate for its type, possessing almost no flaws of note, save for a small strikethrough error on the reverse shield (as made). Immensely charming and uncontested in certified quality." This ducat commemorates the elector's term as vicar of the Holy Roman Empire. The regular issue ducat (Fr-2873) was also issued in 1792 but is much scarcer.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: 3.5 g, 0.986 fine gold.

Catalog reference: KM 1035, Fr-2881.
