Saxony 1792-IEC 2 groschen
This specimen was part of lot 74878 in Stack's Bowers Collectors Choice Online Auction (Costa Mesa, CA, May 2025), which sold for $145. The catalog description[1] noted, "GERMANY. Saxony. Duo of Silver Denominations (2 Pieces), 1792 & 1805. Friedrich August III. Grade Range: EXTREMELY FINE Details to ALMOST UNCIRCULATED. 1) 2 Groschen, 1792-IEC. ABOUT UNCIRCULATED. 2) Taler, 1805-SGH. Dav-850; KM-1027.2. EXTREMELY FINE Details. Cleaned. SOLD AS IS/NO RETURNS." Two groschen made one-twelfth of a thaler. This one year type has a small mintage but has a low catalog value. It is a vicariat issue (elector Frederick Augustus was temporarily vicar of the empire after the death of Leopold II), so it was likely saved.
Recorded mintage: 62,740.
Specifications: 2.33 g, 0.833 fine silver, 23 mm diameter.
Catalog reference: KM-1031.
