This specimen was lot 31164 in Heritage sale 3105 (New York, January 2023), where it sold for $720. The catalog description[1] noted, "German States: Saxony. Friedrich August III Taler 1792-IEC MS63 NGC, Dresden mint. An entrancing representative of this conditionally challenging type, and one seemingly never encountered so fine. A perusal of auction and census records shows no Mint State specimens outside of the offering at hand for this Davenport entry, generally relegated to borderline uncirculated conditions. Blanketed in a nacreous patina and hints of underlying mint brilliance, we anticipate fervent bidder response. Ex. Davenport Collection (Ponterio & Associates, April 2003, Lot 1782). From the Cape Coral Collection, Part II." This type was struck 1791-92 only but is common. In addition to this issue, we note a mining thaler (KM 1026) and a vicariat thaler (KM 1034) for 1792.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: 28.06 g, 0.833 fine silver, .752 troy oz ASW.

Catalog reference: KM 1027, Dav-2698, Schnee-1089.
