This specimen was lot 22705 in Stack's Bowers ANA sale (Philadelphia, August 2018), where it sold for $456. The catalog description[1] noted, "GERMANY. Saxony. Taler, 1790-IEC. Friedrich August I (1694-1733). PCGS MS-64+ Secure Holder. Wonderfully preserved with gold tone over both sides and smooth satin luster in the fields. RARE quality and the finest certified for the date at PCGS." This type was struck 1780-90. For 1790, there is also a mining thaler (Dav-2696) and a vicariat thaler (Dav-2697).
Recorded mintage: unknown but not rare.
