Saxony 1799-IEC ducat Fr-2873
This specimen was lot 31097 in Heritage sale 3037 (New York, January 2015), where it sold for $3,525. The catalog description[1] noted, "Saxony. Friedrich August III gold Ducat 1799-IEC MS65 Prooflike NGC, A stunning, prooflike example with deeply-reflective, golden surfaces that bloom with mint luster upon rotation. The devices are frosty in nature and razor-sharp, save for a small areas of weakness over the crown. An altogether luminous, mint-state example from this highly popular and elusive series, rare as such." This type, the last issued while Friedrich August was still elector, is listed for 1791-1804 and is rare.
