This specimen was lot 52270 in Stack's Bowers ANA sale (Pittsburgh, PA, August 2023), where it sold for $2,880. The catalog description[1] noted, "GERMANY. Saxony. Ducat, 1802-IEC. Dresden Mint. Friedrich August III. NGC MS-62. The only such example of the date in the NGC census, this wholly enchanting and wondrous specimen yields intense brilliance paired with enticing color and a staggering level of preservation. Truly a sight to behold and one with great flair." This type, the last issued while Friedrich August was still elector, is listed for 1791-1804 and is rare.
