This specimen was lot 33665 in Heritage sale 3106 (New York, January 2023), where it sold for $1,920. The catalog description[1] noted, "German States: Saxony. Friedrich August III gold Ducat 1796-IEC AU58 NGC, Dresden mint. Crisply rendered devices and an appreciable contrast on the reverse between the pronounced motifs and the scintillating canvas." This type, the last issued while Friedrich August was still elector, is listed for 1791-1804 and is rare.
