Jean Elsen sale 156, lot 1025

This specimen was lot 1025 in Jean Elsen sale 156 (Brussels, September 2023), where it sold for €4,400 (about US$5,646 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"LIEGE, Principauté, Jean de la Marck, élu (1482-1484), AR demi-aidant, 1484, Liège. D/ + IOHS DEI GRA POSTVLAT LE Lion à mi-corps à g., au-dessus de l'écu incliné de la Marck. R/ + ANNO DNI M CCCC LXXXIIII Croix ornée. Extrêmement rare. Très Beau à Superbe. (principality of Liège, John of Mark, bishop-elect, 1482-84, silver half aidant of 1484, Liège mint. Obverse: half lion left over the tilted shield of Mark; reverse: ornate cross. Extremely rare, Very Fine to Extremely Fine.)"
