from Sincona sale 11, lot 2185

This specimen was lot 2185 in Sincona sale 11 (Zürich, May 2013), where it did not sell. The catalog description[1] noted,

"NIEDERLANDE Westfriesland Silberdukat 1677. Glatter Rand. Sehr schön. (Netherlands, province of Westfriesland, silver ducat of 1677, plain edge, very fine.)"

Silver ducats were struck in most of the provinces that today make up the Netherlands. The basic type runs 1659-1794. This subtype was struck 1673-78 along with lion daalders (Dav-4870), rijksdaalder (Dav-4842), ducatons (Dav-4941) and three gulden (Dav-4961).

Specification: 28.25 g, 0.873 fine silver, this specimen 27.97 g.
