from Sincona sale 11, lot 2186

This specimen was lot 2186 in Sincona sale 11 (Zürich, May 2013), where it sold for 120 CHF (about US$149 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"NIEDERLANDE Westfriesland 6 Stüber 1678. Sehr schön-vorzüglich. (Netherlands, province of Westfriesland, six stuivers of 1678, very fine to extremely fine.)"

This type, the first scheepjesschelling struck in Westfriesland, was issued 1677-79. It superseded the leeuwenschelling. More plentiful issues are known from the eighteenth century.

Specification: 3.3 g, 0.875 fine silver, this specimen 3.24 g.
