Bolivia 1744-P q 4 reales
This specimen was lot 71224 in Stack's Bowers Collectors Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, November 2022), where it sold for $660. The catalog description[1] noted, "BOLIVIA. Cob 4 Reales, 1744-P. Potosi Mint; Assayer Luis de Quintanilla (q/C). Philip V. PCGS VF-35. Although this coin exhibits circulation wear and roughness, it retains an assayer, date, and mintmark on each side. An unusually complete and problem-free example for the grade. From the Pat Johnson Collection. Purchased privately from Mike Dunigan." This type was struck for Philip V through his entire reign. Assayer "q" stamped coins 1744-59. Assayers "C" and "q" are both listed for 1744. The silver cobs were debased from 0.931 fine to 0.917 fine in 1728.
