Bolivia 1744-P C 4 reales
This specimen was lot 770 in Sedwick Auction 37 (Winter Park, FL, May 2025), where it sold for $360. The catalog description[1] noted, "BOLIVIA, Potosí, cob 4 reales, 1744 C, ex-Ponte. Chunky flan with well-centered full pillars-and-waves and cross-lions-castles, two dates and three assayers, AU with traces of black oxidation. Pedigreed to the Luis R. Ponte Collection." This type was struck for Philip V through his entire reign. Assayer "C" stamped coins 1742-44 only. Assayers "C" and "q" are both listed for 1744. The silver cobs were debased from 0.931 fine to 0.917 fine in 1728.
