Bolivia 1745-P q 4 reales
This specimen was lot 71225 in Stack's Bowers Collectors Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, November 2022), where it sold for $360. The catalog description[1] noted, "BOLIVIA. Cob 4 Reales, 1745-P. Potosi Mint, Assayer Luis de Quintanilla (q). Philip V. PCGS Genuine--Environmental Damage, EF Details. Despite the noted environmental damage, a pleasing amount of detail remains on the surfaces of this Cob. The denomination and date are clearly visible on the obverse, and a curiously doubled assayer's mark is present on the reverse. A nicely detailed piece with rustic charm. From the Pat Johnson Collection." This type was struck for Philip V through his entire reign. Assayer "q" stamped coins 1744-59. The silver cobs were debased from 0.931 fine to 0.917 fine in 1728.
