Sincona sale 66, lot 1111

This specimen was lot 1111 in Sincona sale 66 (Zurich, October 2020), where it sold for 120 CHF (about US$158 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"DENMARK | misc. Christian IV. 1588-1648. Skilling 1620, Kopenhagen. Münzzeichen Vogel. Vorzüglich. (kingdom of Denmark, Christian IV, 1588-1648, skilling of 1620, Copenhagen mint, bird mintmark. Extremely fine.)"

This type was struck 1619-23, before Denmark's disastrous foray into the Thirty Years War. Three mintmarks are recorded for this date; the bird shown here, a trefoil and a bird's wing.
