This specimen was lot 72756 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Santa Ana, CA, October 2019), where it sold for $110. The catalog description[1] noted, "SCOTLAND. 40 Pence, ND (1637-42). Edinburgh Mint. Charles I. NGC VF-20. Falconer's first issue. A fair amount of wear is noted, but is rather even throughout, along with a charming cabinet tone." Forty pence was one sixth of a Scottish pound or one quarter merk. This coin was probably equal to two English pence.
