from the Stack's Bowers 2024 ANA sale, lot 45828
SB824-45828r.jpg

This specimen was lot 45828 in Stack's Bowers ANA sale (Chicago, August 2024), where it sold for $2,880. The catalog description[1] noted, "EUROPA. Gold 655.957 Francs, 2000. Paris Mint. NGC PROOF-70 Ultra Cameo." Starting in the 1980's, the Paris mint issued so many NCLT's that the standard catalogs had to drop them to keep the books a manageable size. This one was struck to promote the changeover from the franc to the euro. The face value of 655.957 francs = 100 euro.

Recorded mintage: 2,000.

Specification: 31.10 g, .999 fine gold, 1 troy oz AGW.

Catalog reference: Fr-734; KM-1261.
