Künker sale 353, lot 4049

This specimen was lot 4049 in Künker sale 353 (Osnabrück, Germany, September 2021), where it sold for €380 (about US$529 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"BRANDENBURG-PREUSSEN, PREUSSEN, KÖNIGREICH, Friedrich Wilhelm III. 1797-1840. 2/3 Taler 1801, Berlin. Handelsmünze. Sehr schön-vorzüglich. Die 2/3 Taler waren für den Handel mit Hannover, Mecklenburg und Pommern bestimmt. (Germany, kingdom of Prussia, Frederick William III, 1797-1840, two-thirds thaler of 1801, Berlin mint, trade coin. Very fine to extremely fine. This denomination was struck for trade with Hannover, Mecklenburg and Pomerania.)"

This gulden was worth two-thirds of a reichs thaler or half a convention thaler. Similar demands of trade caused another issue in 1810 (KM 392).

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: 17.32 g, 0.750 fine silver, this specimen 17,14 g.

Catalog reference: KM 363, J. 184; Kahnt 359; Olding 177.
