Prussia 1800-A friedrichs d'or
This specimen was lot 24793 in Heritage sale 3015 (Long Beach, September 2011), where it sold for $2,760. The catalog description[1] noted, "Prussia. Friedrich Wilhelm III gold Friedrich d'Or 1800A, AU58 NGC Eliasberg, attractive original patina with abundant mint luster, very faint obverse adjustment marks. From The Pikes Peak Collection." This denomination was introduced as a wilhelm d'or in 1737 during the reign of Friedrich Wilhelm I (r. 1713-40) but continued as a friedrichs d'or during the rule of Frederick the Great (r. 1740-86). This type was issued 1798-1816. The denomination, worth five thalers, was retired in 1855.
