Revision as of 09:51, 17 September 2024 by LatinKing2020 (talk | contribs) (Text replacement - " .896 fine" to " 0.896 fine")
Shown is a 1791 one real from the Nueva Guatemala mint, of a type struck 1791-1808. In 1776, an earthquake demolished Antigua Guatemala (including the mint) and a new city was built some miles away. To mark the move, the mintmark was changed to "NG" ("Nueva Guatemala", still the capital of Guatemala) on all issues of 1777 and after. Assayer "M" is noted for the years 1785-1821. This type is considerably scarcer than the catalog indicates.
Recorded mintage: unknown.
Specification: 3.38 grams, 0.896 fine silver, .097 troy oz ASW.
Catalog reference: Cayón-13377, KM 54.
