This specimen was lot 1330 in Künker sale 403 (Osnabruck, March 2024), where it sold for €550 (about US$722 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"PAPST GREGOR XIII., 1572-1585. Die Münzstätte Ancona. Testone (3 Giuli) o. J. (1575-1585), Ancona. Der Mantel auf der Vorderseite mit drei Punkten, San Piero und Arabeske verziert, auf der Rückseite der Wappenschild mit zwei Putten. Sehr schön. (Papal States, Gregory XIII, 1572-85, undated testone or triple giulio, circa 1575-85, Ancona mint. The mantle on the obverse has three dots, St. Piero and an arabesque; the reverse has an escutcheon with two putti. Very fine.)"

Pope Gregory is best remembered today for promulgating in 1582 the reformed calendar known as Gregorian. The reverse shows the pope's arms with the motto, SVSPICET ET VALEBIS (Hope and you will be strong).
