Russia 1757-MMA MB 1/4 ruble
This specimen was lot 1442 in Jean Elsen sale 144 (Brussels, March 2020), where it sold for €180 (about US$237 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"RUSSIE, Elisabeth (1741-1761), AR polupoltinnik, 1757Mb, Moscou. D/ B. à d. R/ Aigle impériale couronnée. Très Beau. (empire of Russia, Elizabeth, 1741-61, silver quarter ruble of 1757, Moscow mint. Obverse: bust right; reverse: crowned imperial eagle. Very Fine.)"
The polupoltinnik was equal to twenty-five kopeks or a quarter ruble. During Elizabeth's reign, quarter rubles were minted only at Moscow. This type was struck in Moscow 1755-58. The assayers' initials stand for M. Bobrovshchikov, who operated 1754-57.
