Aureo sale 242, lot 220

The specimen shown was lot 220 in Aureo y Calico sale 242 (Barcelona, Spain, March 2012), where it sold for 240 € (about $373 including buyer's fee). The catalog description[1] noted,

"Carlos IV (1788-1808). 1808. Madrid. AI. 2 reales. Muy bella. Brillo original. Escasa así. S/C-. (Charles IV, 1788-1808, two reales of 1808, Madrid mint, handsome, original luster, about uncirculated.)"

This type was issued at Seville and Madrid 1788-1808. Assayer AI is noted for 1807-08. The minors, especially one and two reales, are much more common than the pesos.

Specification: 6.77 g, .833 fine silver, .181 troy oz ASW.
