Aureo sale 242, lot 269

This specimen was lot 269 in Aureo y Calico sale 242 (Barcelona, March 2012), where it sold for 340 € (about $528 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"Fernando VII (1808-1833). 1824. Potosí. PJ. 1 real. Muy bella. Brillo original. Rara así. S/C-. (Ferdinand VII, 1808-33, one real of 1824, Potosí mint. Very handsome, lustrous, rare thus, about uncirculated)."

This is an example of a type struck 1813-25 at Potosi, Bolivia (then called Upper Peru). It superseded the bust of Carlos IV. Assayer PJ is recorded for 1803-25.

Recorded mintage: unknown but not rare.

Specification: 3.38 g, .896 fine silver, .097 troy oz ASW.
