This type was struck in Upper Peru 1813-25 and is the last colonial type before independence. The elite of Upper Peru, fearful of Indian revolt, had no interest in separating from Spain but finally did so to avoid annexation by Peru or Argentina. An 1822/1 overdate is reported.
Recorded mintage: unknown but common.
