Mexico 1889-Do C 10 centavos

from the Mountain Groan Collection

This specimen is a somewhat scarce date of a series struck 1878-95 at the Durango mint. This ten centavos piece replaced the silver one real struck since colonial times. Several transitional designs were issued 1863-70, including one by the Maximilian regime, before settling on this type. It, in turn, was replaced by a ten centavos piece with a redesigned reverse in 1898.

Specification: 2.71 g, .903 fine silver, .078 troy oz ASW.

Recorded mintage: 55,000.

Catalog reference: KM 403.3.
